Binghamton Man Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison For Meth Possession

A Binghamton man recently appeared in Broome County Court and pled guilty to a drug-related charge.

Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti stated that Jacob Brown, 25, pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree in exchange for an eight-year term in New York State Prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision.

The plea stems from an investigation conducted by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Task Force.

On March 26, officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on Bunn Hill Road in the Town of Vestal for a vehicle that did not have a front license plate and had illegally tinted windows.

Officers uncovered around a quarter pound of methamphetamine hidden beneath a child’s car seat during the stop, assisted by K9 Coco. There were three youngsters in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Brown acknowledged possessing methamphetamine with the intent to sell. He also forfeited his $1,242 investments, which were seized during his imprisonment.

“This case underscores the dangers of drug trafficking and the reckless disregard shown by those who endanger children through their criminal behavior. We commend the SIU Task Force for their continued efforts to keep our community safe,” said Battisti.
