Bakersfield Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Teen’s Shooting Death

Gregory Wisniewski has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading no contest to charges connected to the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy at his home in January 2024.

Court records show Wisniewski pleaded no contest to endangering a child under circumstances likely to cause great bodily harm or death and improper storage of a firearm in the first degree. Four additional felony counts of endangering a child were dismissed. He also admitted to an enhancement for a particularly vulnerable victim.

The Incident

The shooting occurred on January 12, 2024, at Wisniewski’s home on the 6100 block of Provincetown Avenue in southwest Bakersfield. Police found 14-year-old Jayden Jackson dead from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Court documents revealed that a group of teenagers at Wisniewski’s house had access to a gun and began playing with it. During the incident, the gun misfired, fatally striking Jackson. Another boy holding the gun was injured in the hand and reportedly believed the gun was unloaded.

Investigators also found that Wisniewski had allowed six juveniles, including Jackson, to drink alcohol at his residence prior to the shooting. He was charged with leaving a gun unsecured and child cruelty.

The case highlights the dangers of improper firearm storage and supervision of minors, which ultimately led to the tragic death of a teenager.
