Bakersfield Man Arrested After Arming Himself; Inactive Explosive Device Found

A 46-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly arming himself with a gun inside his home near Buck Owens Boulevard, where police later discovered an inactive explosive device.

Officers responded around 1:40 p.m. to the 3300 block of Rio Mirada Drive following reports of a man with a firearm. The suspect, Timothy Ratliff, a convicted felon prohibited from owning guns, was identified and taken into custody.

During a search of the residence, officers located an alleged explosive device. The Bakersfield Police Department Bomb Squad responded and determined the device was inactive.

Ratliff was booked on multiple charges, including firearms violations, possession of a controlled substance, and outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.
