A 28-year-old Lakeland man, who was already in jail on other charges, has been arrested again, this time for stealing a bicycle off the side of a Dollar General store. Austin Clay Walker is now facing new charges of felony petit theft after being spotted in a security video.
The bizarre incident unfolded after a bicycle was reported stolen on September 2 from a Dollar General on North Combee Road. Detective Evans of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office studied the store’s video footage and not only saw the theft but also recognized the suspect, Austin Clay Walker.
The only difficulty was that Walker was already incarcerated at the Polk County Jail.
When Detective Evans interviewed Walker, he admitted to the crime but refused to provide the bicycle’s whereabouts. Walker was charged with felony petit theft as a result of past theft offenses.
In addition to the new accusation, Walker is being held on a Hillsborough County warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of driving while suspended or revoked.
Walker remains in Polk County Jail.
