On July 25, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspect allegedly attempting to accost a minor online. Deputies began surveillance on a residence linked to the individual.
Two days later, on July 27, Alpena County deputies executed a search warrant at the residence and seized electronic devices. A 63-year-old man was taken into custody. The Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office has charged him with two felony counts: accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to communicate with intent to commit a crime — charges that carry a sentence of more than four but less than ten years in prison.
The suspect was arraigned on July 29 in Alpena’s 88th District Court, where his bond was set at $5,000 — 10%.
Authorities are now asking for the public’s help in identifying any other minor children the suspect may have contacted, either online or in person. Investigators believe he may have used platforms such as Chatib.us and Teleguard, operating under the username “62upnorthman.”
