The Bedford, Massachusetts, school community is reeling from the sudden death of 13-year-old Parker Robles, a student at John Glenn Middle School, who was killed in an electric dirt bike crash last week.
The fatal accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Friday in Stoneham, on Oak Street. Investigators report that Robles, while riding his e-bike, collided with a car. He was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he was pronounced dead. According to the Middlesex District Attorney, the crash happened when a 73-year-old driver was turning his Toyota Corolla onto Oak Street.
Authorities have stated that no charges have been filed at this point in the ongoing investigation.
School Community Mourns
Bedford Superintendent of Schools, Cliff Chuang, expressed the district’s deep sadness in a letter to families on Sunday. To help students and staff cope with the loss, counselors will be available starting Monday at:
-
John Glenn Middle School, where Parker was a student.
-
Lane Elementary School, which Parker’s brother attends.
In light of the tragedy, a scheduled Bedford School Committee meeting for Tuesday has been canceled and postponed until December 9.
Over the weekend, dozens of Robles’ friends gathered at the crash site in Stoneham to create a memorial, leaving flowers and notes. One friend, Georgie Travis, remarked, “I can’t believe he’s already gone. He was only 13. Nothing like that should ever happen to a 13-year-old, never in the world.”
