Authorities in Marion County have arrested 52-year-old Elliot Mack following a violent domestic incident that left his girlfriend injured and her dog dead. Mack faces charges of domestic battery and animal cruelty stemming from an Oct. 20 attack in Belleview, just north of The Villages. He is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.
The investigation began when a neighbor called 911, reporting a chaotic scene with “blood all over the walls.” When Belleview Police officers arrived, they found the victim crawling out of the home, bleeding from her face and in a state of hysteria.
She told investigators that Mack attacked her while she was asleep, using multiple household items, including a speaker, a kitchen utensil holder, and a dresser.
According to Ocala-News, the victim’s Chihuahua tried to defend her during the assault. Police say Mack killed the dog before briefly leaving the residence. Officers later found the dog’s remains inside a pillowcase, noting that the animal appeared to have “unnecessarily suffered.”
Paramedics reported that the victim’s blood pressure was dangerously high, but she declined transport to a hospital.
Mack was taken into custody on Nov. 2 and has pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2.
