A woman was hospitalized Monday evening in Rancho Cordova after a car crash and possible physical altercation, according to the California Highway Patrol. KCRA reported that the incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. on the Mather Field Road off-ramp from eastbound Highway 50. When CHP officers arrived, they found an unresponsive woman with head and facial lacerations and a man with minor injuries who was later detained.
Officials are still investigating the connection between the two and what led up to the crash. The collision, which ended with the vehicle striking the side of a hill on the off-ramp, may have been preceded by a physical altercation that began while the pair traveled on the highway. Investigators are working to determine whether the woman’s injuries came from the crash or the assault. In a statement shared with FOX40, CHP said a domestic dispute may have triggered the incident.
The off-ramp remained closed for several hours as officers examined the scene. Traffic disruptions continued into the night, with closures reported as late as 10 p.m., according to FOX40. The investigation is still ongoing as officials work to piece together the events that led to the collision and injuries.
The woman’s current condition has not been released. She was taken to a nearby hospital following the incident. The man, who sustained minor injuries, has been detained and questioned as part of the investigation. More details are expected as authorities continue to look into the nature of the incident and the relationship between the two individuals involved.
