A Wildwood man was arrested for drug trafficking after police discovered a Crown Royal bag containing fentanyl during a traffic stop.
An officer observed 43-year-old Lamar James Warthen speeding southbound on Cutoff Road about 8 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. Radar confirmed that his gray 2014 Chrysler 300 was doing 46 mph in a 30-mph zone.
As a result, the officer followed the car when it made a left and proceeded past the driveway at 1207 Pine Ridge Dairy Road. Warthan got out and started walking away. The officer ordered him to get back into the vehicle, but he continued walking, according to the report.
The officer drew his taser, warning Warthen that he would use it if his directions were ignored. Warthan then walked around to the driver’s side of his vehicle, where he was ordered to the ground and handcuffed for resisting, according to the report.
When he was picked up from the ground, the officer discovered a purple Crown Royal bag in the area where he had been detained. A look inside revealed a clear plastic bag tied in a knot with a whitish material within. According to the report, there was also a cut straw, a scale, medium-sized bags with many stamp-size bags, and a clear bag containing white residue.
The white powder tested positive for 4.7 grams of fentanyl. This prompted a check of Warthen’s vehicle, which revealed a transparent plastic bag with white residue in the driver’s door pocket that matched those found in the Crown Royal bag, according to the report.
Warthen was charged with fentanyl trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resistance without violence, and he was also cited for speeding. He was taken to Lake County Jail and bond was set at $27,000.
