Villager detained on DUI charge after driving wrong way in traffic

A villager was detained on a drunk driving charge after driving the wrong way through traffic.

According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Jeanine Shepherd Erwin, 62, of the Village of Waters Edge, was discovered standing next to a black Nissan Rogue facing south in the northbound lane of travel at the intersection of County Road 101 and Wedgewood Lane around 9 p.m. on Sunday. When a deputy approached Erwin, “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” was noticed.

She agreed to engage in field sobriety exercises, but her poor performance prompted deputies to infer she had been driving while inebriated. The Georgia native gave breath samples with.177 and.186 blood alcohol levels.

She was detained for driving under the influence and put into the Sumter County Detention Center. She was released after paying a $200 bond.
