Man sentenced to 18 years in prison for armed carjacking at St. Charles High

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for armed carjacking, armed robbery, two counts of first-degree assault, four counts of firearm usage, and other crimes stemming from an incident outside a local high school, according to the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Martino Marcus Young of Washington, D.C., was sentenced on October 31 by Charles County Circuit Court Judge William R. Greer Jr. Following his release, Young will serve five years of supervised probation. If he violates the terms of his probation, he could face an additional 30 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, authorities from the Charles Sheriff’s Office responded to St. Charles High School on March 6, 2024, after receiving a report of an armed individual. When they arrived, they contacted a teenager who said that he and two friends had been challenged and assaulted by four individuals in the school parking lot.

A school resource officer also spoke with another student, known as Victim 1, who said that “he was struck several times in his face with a firearm,” according to prosecutors. The student fell and lost the key to his automobile, which one of the suspects stole. The assault left both victims with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to prosecutors, the day before the assault, Victim 1’s buddy and Young’s juvenile co-defendant had a verbal altercation at school. Later that day, Victim 1 drove a friend to the co-defendant’s apartment complex, but there was no argument.

The defendants stopped near Victim 1’s vehicle the next day and ambushed him, Victim 2, and another acquaintance as they approached the automobiles, according to prosecutors. Victims 1 and 2 suffered assault, while the third student managed to escape before the attack.

One of the suspects threatened Victim 1 while brandishing a pistol during the assault. The suspects then departed the scene, with one seizing Victim 1’s automobile.

School cameras acquired video surveillance footage of the incident. During the inquiry, Young was identified as one of the suspects.

During sentencing, Assistant State’s Attorney Kate Edmands requested more than 30 years in jail.

Young was “the mastermind behind all of this,” she claimed. “This case is serious and excessive, as they came to a school in Charles County, brought guns to the school, and pistol-whipped victims.”
