Pennsylvania Officer Charged With Dealing Drug And Stolen Weapon

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that a police officer for United Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and former Westmoreland County chief of police has been charged with felony drug-dealing and possession of a stolen AR-style rifle, according to a news release.

Eric Doutt, who was charged in two Pennsylvania counties, was charged with criminal possession with intent to distribute after selling cocaine on many occasions while under police surveillance.

Doutt was also charged with receiving stolen property and having a stolen firearm for an AR-style rifle discovered during a search of his residence. The weapon was supposed to be destroyed, but he took it instead, meaning to restore it to the original owner.

“This type of conduct by a trusted officer of the law violates the oath he took to keep our communities safe,” Sunday stated. “As a sworn officer, he was duty-bound to remove these dangers from the community and instead, we allege he peddled these poisons.”

According to the announcement, the Pennsylvania State Police and local police supported the Attorney General’s Office in taking Doutt into custody on Wednesday.

The release states that UPMC remained in contact with the Attorney General’s Office during the investigation and provided information when requested. Doutt was charged in both Armstrong and Westmoreland counties.
