A Michigan mom of three is under arrest after authorities discovered her children living in squalid conditions, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Teriomas Tremice Johnson, 31, of Pontiac, Michigan, frequently left her children unattended, according to authorities, and they resided in an apartment that lacked functional plumbing. It “was littered with rotten food and human and animal feces,” according to a news release issued on Tuesday.
A 12-year-old girl, the eldest of three, called police to report a probable break-in at her home. Officers discovered the unit to be in “deplorable condition.”
Johnson was not present in the household, which also housed two 9-year-olds, a boy and a girl, and three cats.
“The children said they had not seen their mother since the previous day,” the report said.
Police also said that the children looked to have defecated in a cardboard box in the bathroom.
“It defies understanding how parents blessed with the gift of a child could show such cruelty,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard in a statement. “The complete lack of compassion and humanity is heartbreaking, and I am eager to see justice served for this unconscionable act.”
Johnson is charged with three counts of child abuse, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of ten years.
During Johnson’s arraignment, she allegedly tossed a chair and yelled an expletive at the court, who subsequently revoked her $250,000 cash bond. Johnson is now being held without bond.
She is also on probation from a previous retail fraud allegation. When she was arrested, she fled from police with two of her children in her car.
The children were placed in the custody of their biological dads.
