A Miami mother has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her son with a fork during a heated dispute Thursday morning over household expenses and his school behavior.
Leticia Puentes, 39, has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following the altercation at their home near Northwest 72nd Street.
According to investigators, the argument began around 8:15 a.m. and escalated as the two fought about a phone bill and the son’s repeated tardiness at school. Reports say the confrontation intensified when the son began throwing objects. As the struggle moved to the floor, Puentes allegedly grabbed a fork and stabbed her son behind the ear, causing what police described as a “fresh bleeding puncture wound.”
First responders treated the boy’s injury at the home. Puentes admitted to stabbing her son but asserted that she acted in self-defense, according to police.
She was taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she is being held on a $3,000 bond.
