A Milwaukee County judge sentenced Javon Smith on Monday, Nov. 10, to ten years in prison plus six years of extended supervision for a carjacking in Milwaukee in February.
Smith previously pled guilty in June to one count of carjacking and possessing a weapon.
According to investigators, Smith and another individual asked a locksmith for assistance in early February, only for the man to be shot and his pockets empty.
According to court documents, the locksmith was communicating with someone on Facebook Marketplace about reprogramming car keys. They decided to meet on West Eggert Place.
According to investigators, as the man arrived, someone got out of a black Nissan with a silver revolver and remarked, “he knew what time it was.”
Another suspect seized the man’s two phones, $150 in cash, and keys.
According to prosecutors, they stole his vehicle, which contained thousands of dollars in equipment, including around 100 blank key fobs.
According to court records, the following day, Smith was recognized in an armed robbery in which he stole $800 from a victim using Cash App. He was apprehended days later.
Officers discovered a phone containing screenshots of messages with an unidentified locksmith, as well as images of the stolen equipment.
Smith is set to appear in Milwaukee County court on January 9 for a restitution hearing.
