The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued several advisories for North Florida tonight, including a Cold Weather Advisory, a Freeze Warning, and a Red Flag Warning, as a significant cold front comes across the area.
Forecasters predict subfreezing temperatures in the Big Bend and Panhandle, with lows in the mid 20s to low 30s overnight Sunday into early Monday. Wind chills might plummet to the low 20s, endangering people, pets, and exposed plants.
The Freeze Warning is in place from 11 p.m. Sunday until 8 a.m. Monday, while the Cold Weather Advisory is valid until 9 a.m. Monday. Residents are encouraged to bring pets indoors, protect vulnerable vegetation, and check on their elderly neighbors.
At the same time, dry air and gusty northwest winds up to 25 mph have triggered a Red Flag Warning until 7 p.m. Monday, posing an increased risk of wildfire. Officials warn against outdoor burning and using extreme caution around open fires or heat sources.
Monday will be sunny but cold, with highs about 54°F, before gradually rising to the mid-70s by Thursday.
