Former NYPD officer from Orange County apprehended on federal charges

A former NYPD officer who resides in Harriman has been indicted with federal crimes, including bribes, narcotics, firearms, and robbery, in connection with a drug trafficking operation.

“Andrew Nguyen allegedly levied his official position as an NYPD officer to accept more than $30,000 in bribes in exchange for transporting narcotics and providing unauthorized armed protection to their illicit operations,” said Assistant Director of the New York FBI office, “Nguyen’s alleged support to a drug trafficking enterprise directly violated the oath he swore to uphold as well as the public’s trust. While the vast majority of our NYPD partners ae committed to honoring their duty to protect and serve, the FBI will never tolerate those who besmirch the badge for personal profit.”

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said it is “an affront to our department when someone so blatantly abuses the public’s trust.”

If convicted, Nguyen could face up to 20 years to life in prison on counts of accepting a bribe, possession with intent to distribute five kilos or more of a cocaine-containing drug mixture, possessing a handgun in furtherance of a drug trafficking violation, and conspiracy.

His illegal activities allegedly lasted almost three years.
