Person of Interest Arrested After Suspicious Death Investigation in South Natomas

A man was found dead and a woman taken into custody after Sacramento police executed a search warrant Thursday in connection with a missing person case.

Officers entered the South Natomas apartment of 59-year-old Richard McClintic on San Juan Road, who had been reported missing since October 25. McClintic, who had cerebral palsy and other medical conditions, was considered an at-risk missing person.

Inside the residence, police discovered a body, prompting a suspicious death investigation. A relative confirmed to CBS Sacramento that the body was McClintic’s, though the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has not yet officially identified the victim or determined the cause of death.

Authorities arrested 41-year-old Christina Cowens, McClintic’s caretaker, on charges of unlawful disposal of human remains, grand theft, and concealing or attempting to conceal a death. Police say additional charges may be filed once the cause and manner of death are determined.

Cowens is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Family members said a vigil for McClintic would be held Friday evening outside his apartment.

McClintic’s story drew public attention a decade ago, when CBS Sacramento featured him in 2015 during a segment highlighting his need for a motorized scooter and a speech-assisting machine. Viewers later donated funds to help him regain mobility and communication independence.
