Authorities in East Texas are continuing the search for 64-year-old Bobby Michael Dennis, who is accused of shooting a Jacksonville police officer on Sunday, prompting a Blue Alert and public warning that he is armed and dangerous. The incident occurred around 4:41 p.m., and the officer, who underwent surgery, is now in stable condition; a K-9 was also injured during the encounter.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to Dennis’ arrest and confirmed that he has been added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted fugitives list. Dennis is described as a 5-foot-9 Black man with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing all black clothing and a black jacket, and driving a gray 2012 GMC Sierra with Texas license plate TRW3919. He was last spotted in the 920 block of Benson Street in Jacksonville.
Out of caution, Jacksonville ISD has canceled classes for a second consecutive day, assuring the community they remain in close contact with law enforcement. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Texas Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-TIPS, submit a tip online, or call 911 if Dennis is seen.
Investigators are also asking residents with doorbell, surveillance, or dashcam footage from the area of the 1100 block of Churchill from Sunday at 4 p.m. onward to contact the Jacksonville Police Department. Governor Abbott condemned the violence, stating that attacks on law enforcement must stop.
