FBI Manhunt Underway After Explosion at Harvard Medical School — Two Massachusetts Men Arrested

Two Massachusetts men were arrested Tuesday in connection with an explosion over the weekend inside the Goldenson Building at Harvard Medical School. Logan David Patterson, 18, of Plymouth, and Dominick Frank Cardoza, 20, of Bourne, face federal charges of conspiracy to damage by means of fire or an explosive.

The explosion happened early Saturday on the building’s fourth floor, which contains neurobiology department labs and offices. Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred, and school officials stated there was no structural damage or harm to research equipment.

According to charging documents, witnesses said the suspects were in the area for Halloween festivities and targeted the medical school because it appeared abandoned. They allegedly accessed the building through the roof, set off a roman candle outside, and then placed a cherry bomb inside a locker, triggering the blast.

U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said the investigation remains active but assured the public there is no ongoing threat to the university. FBI Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks stressed the gravity of the act, stating:

“Setting off an explosive device inside a locker at an institution geared toward higher education is not some harmless college prank. It’s selfish, it’s short-sighted, and it’s a federal crime.”
