Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd called out Pasco County Fire Rescue for continuing to employ someone who was apprehended a second time for road rage.
Sheriff Judd claimed in a Facebook video that Dy’Sean Broome, 33, pointed a gun at another car during a road rage incident on October 25 near US-98 and Combee Road in Lakeland.
Polk County deputies reported the incident to Lakeland police, who stopped him. Judd claimed Broome had a clip of ammunition on his lap and the rifle in the car.
Broome was brought into custody, and Judd stated that officers notified Pasco County Fire Rescue.
According to the sheriff, Broome was arrested for another road rage incident on US-98 in 2017.
He later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in connection with the initial incident, according to Judd.
“Hey, Pasco County firefighters, you’ve got a guy here who can’t control his emotions. He has a problem, and you’re putting him in a fire rescue truck?” I’m just saying, you better think about it,” Sheriff Judd stated.
According to county records, Broome is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, aggravated stalking, following, harassment, and improper exhibition of a pistol. He posted a bond of $10,000.
According to a Pasco County Fire Rescue representative, Dy’Sean Broome is still working as a firefighter/paramedic for the organization. He was hired on January 29, 2024.
The representative stated that no disciplinary action was taken for Broome’s first arrest, which occurred years before he worked at PCFR.
“No disciplinary action was taken, as Mr. Broome was not employed with us at the time of his arrest in 2017,” a spokeswoman told me.
It’s unclear whether Broome will face any disciplinary discipline for his most recent arrest.
