A man has been detained for allegedly taking photos of children in a public bathroom.
According to authorities, officers rushed to a Tallahassee business in April after learning that a man named Qyran Ackerman was taking photos of exposed children in the bathroom.
Tallahassee police officers met with a security guard at the business, who informed them a mother approached him and stated a man in the bathroom had taken a photo.
The security officer informed police that he discovered Ackerman outside and attempted to stop him. According to the arrest records, Ackerman admitted to not taking any photos of the child before fleeing.
Police spoke with the child’s mother, who stated that a man approached her son in the washroom and instructed him to enter the cubicle next to him. She claimed that after her kid was in the cubicle and had pulled his pants down, the stranger began taking photographs. She informed police that her son ran back to her with his pants still unzipped and appeared scared.
The company’s employees knew Ackerman as someone who had formerly worked at Governors Square Mall and frequented the arcade.
When police spoke with Ackerman, he stated that he was dropped off at the shop, went inside to use the restroom, and then quickly left to make it to the bus stop on time, according to court papers.
Authorities seized Ackerman’s phone, and a search turned up photos showing adults and children using the lavatory, according to authorities.
Police also determined that Ackerman had been convicted of digital voyeurism in Brevard County and is now on felony probation.
Ackerman was arrested and charged with five charges of digital voyeurism, attempted digital voyeurism, and a probation violation.
