Monroe County sheriff’s deputies report that Scott Thomas Deiseroth, a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation officer from Miami, Florida, was detained in August 2025 on allegations of alleged DUI, child neglect, and resisting arrest. Body camera footage released in October 2025 showed Deiseroth asking a Black deputy if he was Haitian during a traffic check, which drew widespread attention to the arrest.
Arrest and charges:
Incident: On August 13, 2025, Monroe County authorities stopped Deiseroth, 42, for driving recklessly in the Florida Keys.
Intoxication:
Deputies noticed a strong odor of alcohol. Deiseroth failed field sobriety tests, and two breathalyzer tests revealed his blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit.
Child endangerment:
Deiseroth was driving with his two children, ages 7 and 9, when the stop occurred. Interaction with police: During the arrest, Deiseroth identified himself as a federal agent and refused to leave his vehicle. After being handcuffed, he continually cursed at the officers. He was released on bond after his arrest.
Questioning an officer’s origin:
Body camera footage shows Deiseroth constantly asking a Black deputy if he was “Haitian,” prompting the officer’s colleagues to say that his nationality didn’t matter.
Aftermath and employment status
ICE investigation:
Following Deiseroth’s arrest and the public release of body camera footage, ICE verified his employment and stated that he had been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Court case:
Deiseroth is awaiting trial in Monroe County court on misdemeanor DUI, criminal child abuse, and resisting arrest.
