Deputies arrest 18-year-old in Ridgecrest sexual assault case

An 18-year-old man was taken into custody Friday in Ridgecrest following a sexual assault investigation, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Around 11:30 a.m. on October 17, 2025, deputies, along with investigators from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, served a search warrant in the 5200 block of Nolina Avenue. The operation targeted Elijah Cox, who was wanted on multiple felony charges connected to a sexual assault case.

During the search, authorities found the home in poor condition and determined it was unsafe for habitation, prompting the removal of two juveniles from the residence for their protection.

The children’s parents, identified as Bobbi Smith, 39, and Kevin Smith, 62, were released at the scene but could face child neglect charges.

Cox was arrested on a felony Ramey warrant and booked into Kern County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at (661) 861-3110 or call the Secret Witness Hotline at (661) 322-4040.
