The officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindall, and Leland Mayor John Lee held a press conference Thursday to address the October 11 mass shooting, which killed six people.
Authorities stated on Thursday that 9 people had been arrested, 19 people were hurt because of the shooting, and a total of 26 people were injured in the incident
- Teviyon L. Powell, 29 – Capital Murder
- William Bryant, 29 – Capital Murder
- Morgan Latimore, 25 – Capital Murder
- Terrogernal S. Martin, 33 – Capital Murder
- Latoya A. Powell, 44 – Attempted Murder
Authorities have not yet announced the names of the other four victims.
During the press conference, the mayor of Leland addressed the tragedy, saying, “We’re all still grieving from the shooting that happened downtown, and now is the time to come together.”
Washington County Coroner La’Quesha Washington named the six people slain as Oreshama Johnson, 41; Calvin Plant, 19; Shelbyona Powell, 25; Kaslyn Johnson, 18; Amos Brantley Jr., 18; and JaMichael Jones, 34.
Eikhoff is appealing to the public for assistance in finding witnesses with information and encouraging anyone involved to come forward.
According to a member of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, labs have been working constantly to test DNA discovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and active, and law enforcement is pursuing all leads.
Governor Tate Reeves emphasized to the state his office’s commitment to preventing such weekends in the future.
