Police: Chicago Man Arrested A Year After I-55 Road Rage Shooting

A Chicago man has been arrested a year after a shooting on Interstate 55 that gravely injured another driver, according to Illinois State Police.

ISP said 27-year-old James G. Sims was arrested on October 9 and charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony.

The charge stems from an October 2, 2024, road rage incident on I-55 northbound near Kedzie Avenue. According to investigators, someone in a Ford fired at a driver in an Audi, hitting him several times before the Audi slammed into a light pole.

According to investigators, the Audi driver was hospitalized after suffering significant injuries.

Troopers eventually discovered the abandoned Ford just north of the location, determining that it had been reported stolen prior to the incident.

After a yearlong investigation, Sims was identified as a suspect in the stolen vehicle and arrested.

Sims was detained for his first court appearance.

It is unknown what prompted the road rage altercation, or how investigators linked Sims to the shooting via the stolen Ford.
