Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison For Goose Island Carjacking With 13-year-old Accomplice

A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for teaming with a 13-year-old boy to carjack a driver near Goose Island.

Prosecutors said Keondre Pitts had two carjacking cases pending in juvenile court when he and the 13-year-old carjacked a man at gunpoint on October 9, 2024.

According to an Illinois State Police complaint, the couple confronted the victim in the 700 block of West Division Street about 2:45 a.m. before driving away in his 2024 Honda Civic.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the Chicago Police Department’s hijacking task team publicized the Civic’s license plate and position. Two state troopers quickly located the vehicle at a red signal near Lafayette Avenue and 95th Street.

According to police, the troopers followed the automobile as it drove away and joined the wrong lane of traffic on 95th Street. Pitts and the 13-year-old rushed out and attempted to flee. According to the complaint, the 13-year-old dropped a loaded 9mm handgun as he fled from the troopers. It was recovered.

Pitts has now pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking in exchange for a 10-year sentence from Judge Peggy Chiampas, court documents show. He must serve half of that imprisonment under state law, with a projected parole date of October 5, 2029.

The outcomes of the two juvenile cases are unavailable because the records are not open to public examination.
