Five Arrested, Over 2,800 Marijuana Plants Seized in Taft and Maricopa Raids

Search warrants executed in Taft and Maricopa led to the seizure of 2,843 marijuana plants, 2,501.5 pounds of processed marijuana, and a loaded gun, resulting in the arrest of five individuals, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).

Deputies from the Taft Substation, along with KCSO High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) members and Fish and Game Wildlife agents, served the warrants targeting illegal marijuana cultivation on October 15, 2025. All suspects were booked into Lerdo Jail.

The warrants were served at:

  • 100 block of South Street, Taft

  • 300 block of Naylor Avenue, Taft

  • 2100 block of Brummett Way, Maricopa

Arrestees and charges:

  • Ignacio Chavez, 43, Mexico – cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale, maintaining a residence for sales

  • Luis SanchezRomo, 29, Mexico – cultivation, possession for sale, maintaining a residence for sales, conspiracy, possession of a zip gun, and possession of a controlled substance

  • Ignacio Nevarez, 57, Mexico – cultivation, possession for sale, maintaining a residence for sales, conspiracy

  • Selvano Gomez, 42, Mexico – cultivation, possession for sale, maintaining a residence for sales, conspiracy

  • Francisco Tabares, 27, Lancaster – cultivation, possession for sale, maintaining a residence for sales

KCSO emphasized their commitment to protecting communities and dismantling illegal marijuana operations, noting that such crimes can threaten public safety and negatively impact neighborhood quality of life.
