A 63-year-old Chesapeake woman is dead after she was stabbed by her 15-year-old grandson on Tuesday afternoon in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, according to police.
Officers said they responded to a call for a person injured in the 700 block of South Lake Circle at 4:27 p.m. When they arrived, Chesapeake Police claimed they discovered a woman identified as Christine Murray, 63, who had already died.
A suspect has been taken into custody, according to police. On Wednesday, authorities identified the suspect as the woman’s grandson. He is charged with first-degree murder.
A neighbor explained how the homicide has affected the community.
“This morning at the bus stop, it’s all the kids were talking about and the effect it is going to have on them that one of their classmates, one of their peers was at the point that this had to happen,” the neighbor said.
According to police, there is no threat to the public at this moment.
