A 51-year-old Florida physician, Dr. Hao Nhu Tran, was arrested early Saturday after police discovered an unconscious 15-year-old girl who had been drinking at a party held at the doctor’s home in Winter Park.
Officers responded to the Chestnut Avenue residence around 12:30 a.m. following reports of intoxicated minors. Paramedics treated the teen on scene before she was transported to AdventHealth Winter Park Hospital.
Dr. Tran told authorities she had hosted a gathering for her son and classmates, but additional uninvited teens attended. She admitted noticing some minors consuming alcohol and providing food and beverages, but denied supplying alcohol herself. Investigators found empty alcohol containers, including hard seltzers, throughout the home.
Recognizing the teen’s alcohol-related condition, Dr. Tran contacted the girl’s mother, who eventually called 911. While the mother declined to press charges, she noted Dr. Tran was initially upset about the emergency call.
Dr. Tran faces three misdemeanor charges:
-
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
-
Allowing an open house party where alcohol or drugs are consumed by minors
-
Providing or allowing alcohol to be served to someone under 21
She was released on a $1,500 bond from the Orange County Jail.
Dr. Tran graduated from the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine in 2000. She specializes in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery and is affiliated with Winter Park Memorial Hospital.
