Five people have been charged in connection with an attack on a gay couple in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood last month, police said. Civil rights violation charges have not been filed at this time.
Police responded to River Street around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, after receiving reports of a physical and verbal assault.
According to police, the victims were walking to a convenience store when a group of men began shouting anti-gay slurs. The confrontation escalated, and one of the victims was struck in the head with a baseball bat.
When officers arrived, they found one man bleeding from the back of his head in a nearby parking lot across from a liquor store. He received treatment at the scene before being taken to a hospital.
Five Suspects Charged with Assault and Battery
After a thorough investigation, five suspects were formally charged and arraigned in Dorchester District Court, Boston police announced Wednesday.

Morisset, Payne, and Fanfan were charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.
Francois was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, while Exantus faces charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
The Boston Police Department’s Civil Rights Division led the investigation.
