More Than 20 Taken Into Custody In Major Miami-dade Organized Crime Operation Targeting Auto Dealership Fraud

Miami-Dade County officials have announced the results of a months-long investigation known as Operation “Credit Bust Out,” which resulted in the arrest of over 20 people linked to a massive organized crime network in South Florida. The suspects are accused of arranging a sophisticated web of identity theft, forged documentation, and dealership fraud, resulting in millions of dollars in losses for local businesses and banks.

A coordinated crackdown on auto fraud

The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Doral hosted by Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Daniel Fernandez and Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. Officials verified that the group’s actions included reselling and exporting stolen vehicles to unwary customers and other markets.

“Trust is the foundation of public service,” said Fernandez. “When a resident comes to us for help, they deserve honesty and respect. That is why we will never tolerate fraud, corruption, or schemes.”

The arrests reflect Miami-Dade law enforcement’s increased efforts to safeguard consumers and maintain the integrity of local trade, particularly in high-value industries such as auto sales, which have become ideal targets for organized crime.

Protecting Miami’s businesses and communities

According to investigators, the criminal network worked with astonishing accuracy, obtaining personal information, faking financial records, and securing expensive vehicles using fictitious identities. Many of those automobiles were eventually resold to unsuspecting consumers or illegally smuggled abroad, transforming Miami’s prosperous auto industry into a hub of illicit activity.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz emphasized that the operation’s success underscores the value of collaboration among county departments. “This criminal organization was far-reaching,” she said. “We will continue to dedicate resources and deputies to pursue these cases further. Residents of Miami-Dade County deserve a Sheriff’s Office with the tools, staffing, and commitment to deliver results like this.”

The bust is part of a larger trend in Miami-Dade County adopting tougher action against financial crimes, especially as the region continues to attract huge investments, high-end business, and international trade.

Miami’s image as a global hub for innovation and opportunity is based on the integrity of its systems and the trust of its citizens. Operations such as “Credit Bust Out” demonstrate that the county’s leadership is adamant in safeguarding both.
