Suspect Arrested After Fort Meade Car Burglaries and Attempted Escape from Deputies

A Fort Meade man faces multiple charges, including burglary and resisting arrest, following two car burglaries early Sunday morning. Rashad William Austile, Jr., 27, was apprehended after attempting to evade Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) detectives.

PCSO deputies first responded to reports of burglaries in the Fort Meade area around 5:23 a.m. on October 12. The suspect had already left the scene. Detectives quickly developed a lead when a witness at the location identified Austile as the perpetrator.

When detectives went to Austile’s home, he fled out the back door but was soon found hiding inside a truck and taken into custody.

Austile told detectives he had been under the influence of alcohol and had taken a Xanax bar earlier that night, causing a blackout. He stated he only remembered being dropped off at home by friends and could not recall his actions afterward.

Charges

Austile, Jr. was arrested and booked on:

  • Burglary of a Dwelling

  • Burglary of Conveyance

  • Attempted Burglary of Conveyance

  • Petit Theft (Second Offense)

  • Resisting Arrest

This marks Austile’s second recent theft-related offense, following a January 2024 theft conviction. At the time of this arrest, he was also out on bond from a separate loitering and prowling case from August 16.
