A shooting in downtown Leland on the night of October 10, 2025, during Leland High School’s homecoming game, left four people dead and four others critically injured, according to local officials. State Senator Derrick T. Simmons reported that a total of 20 people were shot in the incident.
The four critically injured victims were airlifted to hospitals, while the identities of the deceased have not yet been released. No suspects have been identified so far.
Senator Simmons described the scene:
“People were just congregating and having a good time… after the gunfire, the scene was very chaotic, as police, sheriff’s deputies and ambulances responded from all over.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) will assist Leland police in the ongoing investigation, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety confirmed.
Authorities continue to appeal for information from witnesses to help identify suspects and understand the circumstances surrounding the mass shooting.
