Oregon Weather Alert: Up To 6 Inches Of Snow Expected Friday Through Monday

Travelers headed to Oregon’s higher elevations this weekend should be prepared for the season’s first bout of mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service in Medford. From Friday night to Monday, a pair of upper-level lows will bring a cold, damp air mass to the region, potentially accompanied by showers and light snow.

The National Weather Service forecasts snow levels to drop to between 5,000 and 6,500 feet by Friday night. Accumulations might range from less than 1 inch to 6 inches, with larger totals locally depending on the storm’s trajectory. Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, and the higher summits of the Cascades, Siskiyous, and Siskiyou County are most likely to receive snowfall.

Forecasters add that warmer ground temperatures may help snow to melt more quickly, but roads may still become slick and dangerous, particularly overnight and early in the morning. Drivers are advised to check the conditions before traveling via mountain passes and to allow extra time for any delays.
