Man Charged With Making Threats Against TikTok Headquarters in Culver City

A Hawthorne man faces criminal charges after allegedly making multiple online threats targeting TikTok’s Culver City headquarters.

Joseph Jay Juant Mayuyo, 33, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of making criminal threats, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.

According to the Culver City Police Department, TikTok employees reported a series of threats from Mayuyo across social media platforms. On Friday, Mayuyo allegedly threatened the Culver City office again, prompting building security to evacuate as a precaution.

Police said detectives later went to Mayuyo’s residence, where he had posted online that he “would not be taken alive” if officers attempted an arrest. After more than 90 minutes of contact by crisis negotiators at 10:10 p.m. Friday, Mayuyo surrendered and was taken into custody without incident shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday.

A search warrant executed at his home recovered items considered evidence.

Culver City Police Chief Jason Sims emphasized, “This incident demonstrates our strong commitment to ensuring the safety of our community and local businesses. We take all threats seriously and investigate them thoroughly.”

Mayuyo is scheduled to appear at the Airport Courthouse on Oct. 21.
