One motorcyclist died and another was hospitalized following a crash on the 5 Freeway Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Investigators said the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on October 5, 2025, as two motorcyclists were traveling southbound in the fast lane.
According to CHP, an SUV traveling in a different lane attempted to make a U-turn through the turn-thru at Grapevine, directly in front of the riders. Both motorcyclists were unable to avoid the vehicle and collided with it.
Traffic on the freeway came to a complete stop while officers investigated the crash.
One rider was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries, while the other was transported by ambulance.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist who died as 41-year-old Angel Barraza Garcia of Paramount.
Everyone inside the SUV escaped unharmed.
