A crash in west Phoenix has resulted in the death of a 6-year-old girl.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, a crash near 75th Avenue on Interstate 10 closed the highway’s eastbound lanes Sunday evening.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the event involved a pickup truck colliding with a passenger vehicle, causing the passenger car to crash into a concrete median. There were five persons in the passenger car.
According to court papers, the car was hit while carrying one adult and four children.
According to DPS, a 6-year-old girl from Phoenix died as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. A four-year-old was also transported to the hospital.
Armyah was identified by her family. They also reported Armyah’s younger sister is still in the ICU with a severe brain injury.
The pickup truck driver fled the scene, but police eventually apprehended Turatsinze Gadi, 21.
ADOT cameras were utilized to track the car after it fled the crash site. Cameras captured the truck traveling to SR 202, where it came to a halt a short time later. According to court papers, the driver got out and headed to a Quik Stop.
DPS proceeded to the store and located the driver.
According to court papers, DPS administered a field sobriety test to the driver, and the findings showed that he was inebriated.
The individual was subsequently taken to the hospital, where a blood test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.219. He also tested positive for THC, according to court documents.
He was subsequently arrested.
Gadi was brought into Maricopa County Jail on charges of second-degree homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering.
According to court papers, during an interview with investigators, Gadi admitted to consuming beer and tequila at a birthday celebration before the crash. He also claimed that the other vehicle involved in the accident brake-checked him. According to VCU detectives, this account is inconsistent with the findings of their investigation.
According to court records, Gadi stated during the interview that he left the scene of the incident because he was in shock and needed to call his girlfriend, which is why he went to the Quickstop.
