The San Jose Police Department apprehended a man suspected of murdering a woman on Sunday.
At 2:49 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious circumstance in the 900 block of Wainwright Drive. Police said the caller was the victim’s adult son. The caller stated that he had found his mother deceased. Upon arrival at the scene, officers ascertained that the victim had passed away and suffered from trauma.
Homicide detectives quickly identified Venko Gospodinov, 60, of San Jose, as the main suspect. Detectives used license plate readers to determine that the suspect may have been in the Capitola region. Local authorities were notified of Gospodinov’s whereabouts.
The California Highway Patrol located the suspect in Capitola and put him into custody without incident. The subject was taken into SJPD custody. He was booked for murder and taken to the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
Police continue to investigate the motivation and circumstances of this event.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner will announce the victim’s identification.
Police said this is the 22nd homicide of 2025.
