Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers pursued an armed suspect on probation through the San Fernando Valley Thursday evening, ending after the suspect’s vehicle flipped over following a crash in Van Nuys.
The chase began just before 9 p.m. and involved the suspect weaving through traffic at high speeds. According to reports, the LAPD deployed a spike strip, shredding the vehicle’s left front tire, which contributed to the driver losing control.
The crash occurred when the suspect’s SUV clipped a parked Kia Optima at the intersection of Calvert Street and Cedros Avenue, causing the SUV to roll onto its side.
Officers quickly secured the scene and apprehended the driver, who was conscious but disoriented, slowly crawling out of the passenger-side window. Medical personnel were called to the scene.
The suspect, who was on probation for a previous shooting, faces charges related to the high-speed pursuit and crash. This incident highlights the dangers of metropolitan pursuits for both suspects and bystanders.
