One Person Taken Into Custody After Drug Bust In North Carolina

A 46-year-old Morehead City woman was taken into custody on Wednesday following a month-long undercover operation by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.

Melissa Rae Guitard was arrested after detectives seized 238.1 grams of methamphetamine. According to investigators, Guitard frequently traveled outside Carteret County to replenish meth for local distribution.

Guitard was arrested at a car stop in Cedar Point while returning to the county with methamphetamine. She is facing many accusations, including four counts of Level 2 Trafficking Methamphetamine and Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine.

On Thursday, she appeared before District Court Judge Alex Pully and was granted a secured bond of $1,000,000. Sheriff Chris Buck applauded his investigators, saying, “This case demonstrates how some people refuse to learn from their mistakes and continue to break the law.” For those perpetrators, jail and prison are the places they should be.

Guitard remains in jail at the Carteret County Jail.
