An Ocklawaha woman was detained when a K-9 unit discovered drugs in her purse during a traffic stop at a tavern on State Road 44.
A deputy noticed a silver Nissan with 47-year-old Elizabeth Lynn Young as a passenger heading westbound on State Road 44 in Wildwood at 10 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The driver’s side headlight was out, causing a traffic stop in the parking lot of Dani’s Sports Bar & Grill.
The deputy approached the vehicle to speak with Young and the male driver while a K-9 unit arrived on the scene. The K-9 sniffed the outside of the vehicle and detected the stench of narcotics, prompting a search, according to the report.
According to the report, the deputies discovered a transparent baggie with less than 20 grams of marijuana in Young’s Coach bag, as well as a black bag under the passenger seat containing a blue box with methamphetamine, two straws, a dollar bill, and a credit card.
Young was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana (less than 20 grams), and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center and bond was set at $3,000.
