Dunaway Leads Lady Cavs Past Warren Co

The Lady Cavaliers rebounded from their first district loss with a 57 to 44 victory over the Lady Pioneers of Warren County.

Warren County hung around all game but did not outscore Cookeville in any of the first three quarters. The Lady Cavs held an 12 to 11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Cookeville pushed the lead to eight at halftime with a 29 to 21 advantage.

Cookeville took control in the third quarter as they extended their lead by 15. The Lady Cavs took a 44 to 29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Warren County outshot Cookeville from the free throw line and from beyond the arch. The Lady Pioneers hit five, three point shots compared to Cookeville’s two.Warren County also hit 11 of their 13 free throw attempts where Cookeville hit 13 of their tries.

Cookeville’s Katie Dunaway scored a game high 23 points. Dunaway finished seven of eight from the free throw line. Her twin sister, Julie, and Jordan Gillies each finished with eight points.

Beth Vaughn led Warren County in points with 14. Cam Nowlin also added 11 points of the own for the Lady Pioneers.

The loss drops Warren County 2-19, 0-4 on the season. The Lady Pioneers will host White County, Tuesday in McMinville.

With the win the Lady Cavaliers improve to 16-5, and 2-1 in district play. Cookeville travels to Rhea County this Tuesday night.
