A late-night shooting in east Bakersfield left a 15-year-old boy dead and another teenager injured, prompting a homicide investigation, police said.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Highland Knolls Drive and Morning Drive around 11:42 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, according to the Bakersfield Police Department (BPD).
At the scene in the 4200 block of Morning Drive, officers found two Hispanic male teenagers suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to a hospital, where the 15-year-old victim died. The 16-year-old boy sustained minor injuries.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased teen’s identity at a later time.
No suspect information has been released, and detectives have taken over the investigation. Police said the case remains active and ongoing.
