Massive illegal cannabis warehouse shut down in East New York; 2 Detained

City officials say a major supplier in the illegal cannabis market has been shut down during a raid on an East New York warehouse Friday afternoon.

According to NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry, the warehouse, located at 209 Highland Place and known as “P.U.,” contained 400 to 600 pounds of unlicensed cannabis products.

Daughtry claims the warehouse supplied two smoke businesses, one in Manhattan and one in Brownsville, which were also sealed after inspections.

Officials described the inside layout as “elaborate,” including packaging rooms, transportation areas, and distribution operations.

Many of the seized products were disguised as sweets and cereal, according to investigators, with the intention of targeting children.

“They got shipments, they packaged the individual packages, and they distributed from this location,” Miranda went on. “We have observed them going to other places, which we are also inspecting; this is a large operation.

A source verified to News 12 that two people were arrested at the scene, one of whom was believed to be the owner.

Daughtry stated that shutting down suppliers is a significant component of Mayor Eric Adams’ “Operation Padlock to Protect,” which has closed over 1,500 illegal stores, recovered $100 million in goods, and imposed $220 million in penalties.

He further stated that untested cannabis can pose health hazards and that the high sums of cash associated with these enterprises frequently drive violent criminality.

The Department of Buildings issued a full vacate order for the warehouse, while the FDNY issued numerous infractions.
