Two Canyon Country residents died in a head-on collision on Sierra Highway in Acton early Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 6:20 a.m., just south of Crown Valley Road. CHP investigators said a black Infiniti Q50, driven by 22-year-old Maximus Calzada of Canyon Country, lost control for reasons still under investigation and crossed into oncoming traffic.
The Infiniti collided head-on with a blue Honda Odyssey driven by 57-year-old S. Hernandez-Trinidad of Santa Clarita. Calzada and his front passenger, 22-year-old Pedro Gomez, were killed, CHP Public Information Officer Jordon Church confirmed.
A rear passenger in the Infiniti, 22-year-old G. Gonzalez, suffered major injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Hernandez-Trinidad also sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Authorities noted that Calzada and Gonzalez were not wearing seatbelts. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
