This week, steady rain will move throughout the Mid-Atlantic, bringing much-needed moisture to regions of Pennsylvania and Virginia.
According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, storms in Pennsylvania have already dumped more than an inch of rain in various spots over the last 24 hours. Additional waves of rain are likely to continue until Saturday morning, September 27.
Forecast models predict widespread rainfall in Pennsylvania and Virginia, with totals ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 inches common. However, heavier pockets may cause local amounts to exceed 2 inches, especially in northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania. Virginia is also forecast to get continuous rainfall, which might result in moderate flooding in low-lying areas and along small streams.
The wet trend may have an impact on commuters and weekend visitors. Drivers on important roadways, including I-81 in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley and I-76 in central Pennsylvania, are advised to exercise caution as slick roads and poor visibility are expected.
While the rain may cause brief delays, officials say it’s a welcome change for areas that have been experiencing dry weather in recent weeks. The National Weather Service will continue to update forecasts as the storm travels through the Mid-Atlantic.
