An assistant football coach at Blanche Ely High School was arrested after allegedly battering multiple students, officials said.
Jamir Clarke, 29, faces eight counts of child abuse without great bodily harm, according to Broward jail records. The Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the school shortly after 4 p.m. Monday following reports of a battery and took Clarke into custody.
According to the school principal, the incident occurred during practice when Clarke allegedly struck three students following a verbal altercation. “Law enforcement immediately investigated, and the individual is now facing criminal charges,” the principal said. Clarke will no longer serve as an assistant football coach, his only role on campus.
Broward County Public Schools officials said Clarke has been reassigned while the matter is reviewed, with potential consequences including termination. “We are deeply disturbed by this incident, as the safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority,” the district added.
Clarke was booked into jail, and the investigation remains ongoing.
