A terrible tally from Chicago, as police reports revealed a series of shootings over the weekend, resulting in at least four deaths and 20 injuries throughout the city. Among the incidents, a 20-year-old man died after being shot and smashing his car on the East Side early Sunday morning, NBC Chicago reported.
The young man, who has yet to be identified, was driving a silver SUV when he was hit by gunfire, causing the vehicle to flip over after hitting several parked cars on the 10100 block of South Avenue M. Police found him with a gunshot wound to the head. He was brought to the hospital, where his death was confirmed. Shortly later, a 20-year-old woman involved in the same incident sought treatment at a neighboring residence for a gunshot wound to the leg, and she is now in good condition. A weapon was found at the site, but investigators have yet to release suspect information.
The violence was not limited to a specific neighborhood or date. On Friday night, CBS News reported the shooting of a 30-year-old male, an 18-year-old, and a 57-year-old in separate incidents. These violent acts serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing bloodshed in the city.
In another disturbing incident, a 33-year-old male who was allegedly breaking into an apartment was fatally shot by a woman with a legal concealed carry permit. CBS News reported that the confrontation appeared to be domestic in nature. The weekend’s violence spread from the South Side to the West Side, with victims as young as an 8-year-old girl who was shot in the left index finger inside a home. Despite the woman firing her pistol in apparent self-defense, no arrests took place.
