Man confesses to fatal shooting in Taft, estranged husband arrested: Court docs

According to an arrest report, Kern County deputies responded to a call in the 200 block of Philippine Street early Monday morning. Nahaman Bucato, 34, contacted dispatchers and admitted, “he had just shot and killed someone.”

When deputies arrived, they found Bucato in the front yard. Inside the home, they discovered a man who had been fatally shot.

A woman at the residence told deputies she was asleep next to the victim when she awoke to a man holding a flashlight and handgun. She recalled seeing “four muzzle flashes” and identified the shooter as Bucato, her estranged husband.

The report also noted that Bucato’s listed address differs from the scene of the shooting.

Bucato is scheduled to appear in court on September 29, 2025.
